DD Animatic is complete! Thanks to everyone who supported me as I worked on this large project. I'm going to go lie down now - #Darkestdungeon www.youtube.com/watch?v=0_FM...

Didn't intend for it to release the first day of pride month when I said "tomorrow" yesterday, but hey happy pride, enjoy the reymas
nobody ask me why it dropped as a youtube premiere I didn't mean to do that and couldn't undo it :V
Now that this project is complete I can share some process stuff and cut content. Heres some of the initial sketches (1/2)
(2/2)
Also heres these drawings that were on screen for like 4 seconds collectively
They were initially intended to be standing during this sequence but id didnt make sense spatially. To have it make sense i would have had to add a transitional scene from inside the bar to outside, and the duration of that portion of the song was too short to do that so I had to change it
Changing that scene from standing to sitting actually meant I had to cut these interactions which ultimately I think was for the best. I much prefer the more subtle end product to these shots. Happy accidents and all that
These shots were actually initially intended to be for reynauld+dismas meeting junia and paracelsus for the first time but I did not like the flow of them so they were removed or repurposed as needed
One of the most important things I learned while working on this project was how to organize files so they were clean and flexible. Here's an example of a frame I drew at the start of this project and some frames I drew towards the end as examples of what I'm talking about
Separating moving components from non-moving ones and grouping elements that belong together (ie. a character's lineart and their color fill) was extremely helpful and made going back to correct or change things much less painful once I got into the habit of organizing things in this way
This may seem really obvious, and to some extent it is, but for me it's a very different organizational method than the one I use for solo illustrations that are just b/w. I don't tend to use many folders, and I'm much less meticulous about keeping relevant elements together
This being said, i do not recommend laying out entire files the way I did, because there are definitely more computer-friendly ways to draw out animatics while still being able to test how sequences of drawings flow together. I don't know what those ways are but they are surely out there
Back to more worthless tidbits: I drew a whole ass background for this shot and somehow didn't think about the fact that most of it would be covered by people. Still kind of baffled at how and why I did that
That rotating shot was also not planned from the beginning at all, same with the horses galloping scene. Both were thrown in because I needed to fill large stretches of time and did not have anything else to put in
The youtube comments are so sweet thank you to all the ppl here and elsewhere for the support on this project it means a lot!
