LLMs might come to erode literacy, and literacy is not just about accessing information, but also about "recursive empathy, long-horizon abstraction, disciplined counterfactual reasoning, interiority, and the capacity to entertain multiple perspectives over time". And it is a complex and fragile achievement. It can be eroded if we become reliant on things like just asking questions and having LLMs answer orally.
