Game-changing innovation generally happens when we create space for ideas that seem impossible today. When we fund research without demanding immediate returns. And when we recognize that breakthrough discoveries can come from places and people we might not expect.

History teaches us that our nation wins when we bet on human curiosity before we know where it leads.

@Sheril Yeah, I wouldn’t count on much of that during the current Brain Drain.

@Sheril

The idea that all research should be "commercially relevant" misses the point. The scientific process leads to unexpected findings, and there's always value in following that path to see where it takes us. Science for the sake of science is like music for the sake of music. It brings meaning and beauty to our existence.

It's human nature to walk towards the horizons, to discover the undiscovered. Not because of money, but curiosity. And it's made us a remarkable species.

@Sheril @ewen Not sure that the game is changing, the Monopoly just becomes more and more extreme, heading towards « game over »
