The Ocean is North America's oldest named passenger rail service. Since 1904, it's linked #Halifax to #Montreal, via Sandford Fleming's old Intercolonial Railway line.

It's a sleeper, and the food, service, and scenery are outstanding.

I document our trip in my feature in the Times of #London.

The locomotive is diesel-electric, the coaches are stainless-steel Budd cars from mid-century, and the sleepers are from the Nightstar, built to run in the Chunnel.

@straphanger Huh! Iβ€˜ve mostly heard disappointed accounts of the Ocean. Apparently there is no real kitchen on board anymore and they scrapped the observation cars?

Anyway, will read your article, maybe it is a train I want to take after all!

@exterm There is most definitely a kitchen and the food is excellent. No Park Car, but the lounge is great, and the sleeper cars are a treat.
@straphanger Update: I enjoyed your article and will look for an opportunity to take the Ocean myself. Thank you Taras!
@straphanger
That's fantastic! Unfortunate that the line is falling into disrepair, because it is such a nice trip.
