I saw this yesterday and can't stop thinking about it.

#covid #COVID19 #CovidIsNotOver

If you know who created this, please let me know so I can credit! I reverse image searched but my findings were inconclusive.
@aleen If you find the person, tell them it’s brilliant!
@aleen maybe the best iteration of the trolley dilemma i know. Because it's not a joke at all.
@aleen Too fucking real.
@aleen
Yeah, same. I remember someone saying about the original trolley problem "everybody assumes you're the person pulling the lever but actually you're one of the people on the tracks" - but this is our chance to be the lever person. Maybe only the people on the tracks care enough to see that, however πŸ˜”
@3TomatoesShort @aleen in this case you're both on the tracks and can pull the lever

@aleen Utilitarians and their reduction of every single challenge to a trolley problem. Now there’s a moral failing if I ever saw one!

NOTE: This comment is not in any way intended to attack the poster of this meme, but is a comment on the whole meme itself, and the current very toxic phenomenon of reductionism in moral space of society as a whole.

@gimulnautti @aleen Are you masking and vaccinated?

@ariaflame @aleen Yes I am. Why are you asking? Did I come across as not being for that?

Trust me. My disdain for utilitarianism goes well beyond this particular meme that manages to invert it’s usual total lack of respect for the complexities of moral problems trolley problems are supposed to represent.

Finally one which works, not flattening morality into an exercise of calculus (which never really works)

@gimulnautti @aleen Oh yes, it's very simplistic. Unfortunately when you are trying to explain things to people who can't grasp complex problems you have to simplify things a bit.
@aleen ... Would someone really consider letting the trolley hit these persons, instead of wearing the mask? Ok. The mask we don't know, but 5 people probably ending up dead or seriously hurt?
@aleen To me this is a bit too ambiguous: my first reaction was like "yawn... another lame freeze peach meme on 'wokism'" and only when I figured "What the heck, what's the problem now with these guys..." your take, which likely is the most reasonable took me by surprise. But in the end I am afraid it is easily interpreted differently by casual readers even when in agreement with the point you're making.

@aleen

I wish I could give this more than one boost!

@aleen @jensimmons well then I have been saving these people since the start of the pandemic. I always mask indoors. #covidisntover #justbecauseyoureoverit
@aleen Pull! No problem.
@aleen
As drawn that's going to derail anyway πŸ€”

@aleen I'm still masking in public, confined spaces. No plans to stop.
