Furry history time: I'm starting to scan in old zines and comics that I have so that they're not just rotting away on my bookshelves. No idea if these are of any historical significance, but please enjoy these first two in all their excessive tiff glory. These were published about four years before I entered the fandom, myself: 1990 Summer and Fall copies of the Florida publication Mythagoras, collections of furry short stories, comics, and beautifully sketchy artwork.

@keirFox I love how page 2 of issue 2 talks about furry drama... Even back in 1990 with the tiny fandom back then it was happening.
@zorinlynx Yeah, I don’t have a very good memory of the drama from back then but…I tend to think we are better off now despite it seeming difficult at times.
@zorinlynx I wonder if the author of that letter is still around today and what they must think of this fandom that was once so small that internal drama was seen as an existential threat.
@keirFox Such an excellent aesthetic. They're as old as I am!

@keirFox Also, the furry BBS listings... Holy crap I'm thinking how much I would have totally lost my shit had I found a furry BBS in 1989 or 1990.

Sadly there were none in 305 (that I knew of, or have heard of since) and anything north of the county line was a long distance call.

@keirFox Thanks for posting these. I love old zines and people who are scanning and posting them are helping preserve our fandom history. These would otherwise collect dust unseen for more decades.

A while back I saw someone claim they had scanned hundreds of them but didn't want to post them because of worrying about copyright. That made me sad because 1) I doubt anyone still cares after 30 years, and 2) that's what the DMCA is for. Someone can file a takedown and that's it. It's NOT a big deal.

@zorinlynx More than anything it is the sheer time required for this. Picking out the staples, scanning each page after adding in buffer pages to block bleed through, flip flopping the folded set, numbering the files correctly, then reassembling. If someone goes through that for a more than a dozen of these they really need to share them because damn that is a lot of effort.

@keirFox Yeah, it's a lot of work but worth it. I'm really big on preservation and showing the fandom of old to newcomers.

If I had old zines I'd be doing that too. I sorta came in at the tail-end of the zine era and found almost all my furry content online, though.

@zorinlynx Now I just have to figure out who else to get it to so that the data isn't just with me.
How to upload scanned images to make a book – Internet Archive Help Center

@keirFox MacOS's built in “Create PDF" did a beautiful job of PDFizing them and making them a more reasonable size.

I have fucktons of upload bandwidth now. I'm considering mirroring some of this stuff.

@zorinlynx I ended up pushing to archive! They have sooo much out there - nearly all of Critters! I can’t figure out how to download them, though - all 404 for me.

@keirFox @zorinlynx you download them though the download links , they seem to work for me
@keirFox Wonderful scans, thank you for going to the trouble! Have you thought about putting them on the Internet Archive so they're easier to read? (Or in a zip file so they're easier to download?)
@RavenWorks Putting them up there now after a little refining!
