Lety Does the 16th Annual Thai New Year Songkran Festival at Thai Town

@letydoesstuff The timing on noticing the statue in the background is great lol

And I know prawns are supposed to be big, but those things are fucking huge, I am amazed

@omggstuff @letydoesstuff Yeah, these specific ones show up in Thai/SEA cooking a lot

@letydoesstuff Ahh Happy Songkran. This reminds me of when I was a child my family hosted Thai students for holidays when IU was closed. Had my first taste of curry-with chicken I think. I was 4 or 5. Made me wary of spicy food for years. Lety, you promote these cultural events well
@RichWhitaker @letydoesstuff Lmao, really getting critical Luddite lore into why you're also afraid of wasabi
@lety yeah that experience stuck for years. Overall those were good occasions for a kid from Indiana. Met many international students over the years.

@letydoesstuff I was introduced to Songkran through videos of massive super soaker battles in the streets. This looks a lot more chill.

But I want super soaker battles!

@MuseumTheater @letydoesstuff Yeah, this wasn't that. I don't think, I was also there at like 10AM before the sun was really out. There's another celebration at Wat Thai that I beeelieve incorporates that a little more
@letydoesstuff The variety in entertainment was pretty cool.
Really liking these event, cultural and museum videos.
Living vicariously through you on them and getting some information to then expand on later in searches is nice.
@VirsagoStein @letydoesstuff Haha, spent a bad amount of time filling stuff out in the video's PeerTube description, if you wanna check all that out
@lety @letydoesstuff Doing more research, I am deeply disappointed in the lack of a cleansing water fight.
@letydoesstuff Showing (probably unintentionally) the names of the streets at the intersection where you started your walk (Hollywood Blvd & Normandie Ave) allowed me to look up in Google Maps where Thaitown was. I also noticed on the street view on Google Maps that you could look straight up Normandie Ave and see Griffith Observatory.
@jtav4 @letydoesstuff Normandie's a really big avenue with lots of interesting stuff on it! Gonna bump into it in another vlog I filmed a little laters on
@letydoesstuff Gotta admit I was really looking forward to the Muay Thai demonstration.πŸ±β€πŸ‘€ I had the Mortal Kombat music going in my head. 😁 Also, I'm a fan of seafood, but never been one to like the hassle of cracking open giant crustaceans πŸ¦πŸ¦žπŸ¦€to get to the fleshy bits. Enjoyed the vlog. 😊 I like seeing different parts of LA.
@DarkCheshire @letydoesstuff I like the hassle, just when I have proper tools for it lol. Was gonna just bite the arm in half as a bit but it's covered in a bunch of spikes πŸ€ͺ

8:45 Oh, even though we're on peertube we still have to think about other inferior platforms and their constraints. Bummer.

Anyway, thanks for sharing. You sure find lots of interesting events to attend. Makes me want to start going out and looking for events like this where I live as well. I just subscribed to the city's RSS feed, so that's a start.

@ygor @letydoesstuff I don't mind the constraint with regard to like, copyrighted music, so long as it's not overtly intentional. Standing right next to some barber shop with a boombox blasting who knows what at full volume is different than when YouTube gets mad at me for being at a cafe with background music.
@letydoesstuff I love the vibe of the parade. Seems fun to hangout. Also prawn big
@letydoesstuff thanks for sharing this festival! LA always has so much going on, its hard to remember that despite how different we seem and retreat into our little niches, things like this remind us that the city has so much more to pffer than wjat your used to.
@Ewong @letydoesstuff Yeah, this was the last major thing before summer, but I've gone to some really fun events in the past month that I can't wait to show off soon

@letydoesstuff Hihi! Lety here, auto-commenting from my main account (which doesn't have a πŸ”• icon)!

This is how my PeerTube videos look on other Fediverse platforms!

Remotely interact with this video using an account on an ActivityPub-powered platform like Mastodon Social! Just click the β€œAdd comment...” box under any PeerTube video and enter your Fedi handle in the pop-up. That’ll direct you to the federated post for that video on whatever platform you use.

Or, if you’re already logged in on Mastodon or wherever you're seeing this message, just look at the post I’m responding to!

Replies and favorites on that post show up as comments and likes on PeerTube, and following the account that posted it subscribes you to my videos.

Heads up, though! While some platforms might allow you to respond with custom emojis, gifs, images, polls, and reactions, most of that fancy stuff won’t show up correctly on PeerTube. The same goes for any edits you might want to make to your response unless you delete & re-draft.

If you already know all this or are tired of seeing this wall of text, you can hide these explanation posts by going to your account preferences and creating a new filter with the title and keyword β€œ#LetyDoesPeerTubeExplainer” and all context boxes checked.

Thanks so much for watching! βš‘β€‹βš‘β€‹βš‘β€‹
