@bhoutlook ban speculative real-estate investment, end of problem.
@bhoutlook also, finland didn't end homelessness. instead, during the current government, number of homeless people has been skyrocketing.

@Stoori @bhoutlook Also like

While it's true we have relatively low homelessness rate in general, we've always had homeless people.

I mean, we have an annual "night of the homeless" when folks hand out food and clothes and such to homeless folks.

So no, Finland never "ended" homelessness, despite comparatively low numbers to a whole lot of places.

The current government is making homelessness numbers go up through austerity etc too ._.

@Stoori @bhoutlook One of the reasons for our spectacularily low numbers is bcuz of who gets counted and who doesn't.

A person sleeping on the street, assuming some civil authority is aware of it, will most likely count them as homeless. Same thing for those living in their cars.

But a huge chunk of homeless folks here don't live like that. A huge number of homeless folks live from couch to couch at friends, family, even hobby groups.

That kinda homelessness is near invisible here.

When we tried to have the government build housing here in the US, we got "the projects".

@bhoutlook

@bhoutlook @afewbugs this is completely false. Finland has never "decided that housing people didn't need to turn a profit". This country is full of landlords making money from rent, and as other people already commented, houselessness is rising under the current government.
