INCREDIBLY excited to announce this: I collaborated with the Internet Archive to make a new 24/7 lofi livestream!

By day, you can see scanners scanning and what they're scanning, and when they're not scanning, you will see public domain silent movies and pictures. Sorta like an Internet Archive TV

@via I love this so much and am sharing widely. Partly to show what goes on behind the scenes, the human action we see. Need a break from your routines? Take five minutes to watch live archiving!
@via FWIW I shared in our community of open educators. It says much how one person's idea shared online can mushroom into something big https://connect.oeglobal.org/t/watch-the-internet-being-archived-live/7683
Watch the Internet Being Archived, Live!

This is just utterly amazing. If you make use of the internet archive, do you have any concept of how old documents are digitized? Now, you can watch the archiving life streamed, as it is happening. Ever wonder how government documents, locked away on tiny sheets of microfiche, become searchable and accessible online? Now you can see it happen in real time. This is the Internet Archive’s microfiche digitization livestream—part of our effort to build Democracy’s Library by preser...

@cogdog Amazing, thank you for sharing!
@via
There needs to be a non-Youtube stream of this (self host, peertube or media.ccc.de or some such)
@athamanatha agree! there are plans... they will take a little bit but there are certainly plans...
@via this is so cool it’s unbelievable
@via is this on peertube as well?
@liaizon @via mmm that would be great!

@via

Great to see the knowledge preservation of the @internetarchive in action!

#InternetArchive

@via this is great. Wish it were available other than on YouTube though
@via is the public domain media that will be shown curated? Thinking about using this in my classroom but want to ensure that everything would be school appropriate
@cubeofcheese Yes, it’s specifically only NASA, silent film hall of fame collection, and lost landscapes Send me a pic if you use it in your classroom!!
@via awesome thanks 😊
@cubeofcheese incredible, thank you so much! I hope your class enjoys it!
@via couple kids asked what it was. I explained the Internet Archive to them (blocked on school wifi so i showed them on my phone). One of them said "thank you I'll check it out"
@cubeofcheese wait why is the archive blocked by schools? what are they categorizing it as?
@via basically any site with a login is blocked unless they have a privacy agreement on file
@cubeofcheese i see, i suppose that makes sense
@via for context, Wikipedia is also blocked, which makes me vv sad
@via omg it's like the salmon spawning season bear cameras, but with books not fish, and librarians not bears!

@via it was cool, but then it stopped, with "SENSITIVE INFORMATION BEING ENTERED" "PARDON THE INTERRUPTION"

Now I'm wondering what nefarious things they are up to.

@ghouston That’s when the pause button is hit, like if the technician is doing something. I’d like to improve that transition very soon so it’s not so scary
@Sophia :AAAAAA: Nice project. I could imagine this better without the rather cheesy music loop (personal taste), though, or with scanned/scanning music/audio.
