I hate to say it... but I think I can find LLM (or AI like Chat GPT and Gemini) kind of useful as a tool.

Having a companion that helps you sift through documentation and references for code is proving quite helpful for me.

But it shall NEVER be a replacement, and should be used as a TOOL

Most recent example is asking for some guidance on how to avoid screen burn-in with a dashboard screen for a server rack.

I knew what I was looking for (shift the screen around) but all my search online lead to passive agressive forums or to specific solutions that don't match my need

Yet...

Using Gemini, I got a list of potential solutions, and asked for a way to implement it and got a very detailed explanations with code!

I "know" how to code so I wasn't blindly copying stuff, but for people learning... It can be a really good resource, NEVER a replacement for learning the basics.

But it felt better to use that than to end up on raspberry pi forums that have passive aggressive responses to newbies, or reddit threads that have been purged or wiped or locked behind layers of messy UX.

It still has a long way to go, and the industry is using it blindly for profit only instead of advancement of humanity and knowledge.

The problem of energy consumption and climate is still a huge deal breaker. But I'll explore self hosting one in the future 👀
