Soph (they/them)@kittyc oh that is fun! unfortunately a lot of the characters in the system are from shows I don't know, so the first 4 characters in my results that I actually recognise are all star trek: Julian Bashir, Geordi LaForge, Beverly Crusher, Data.
@soph_sol lol, that probably also says something about us, which shows we’re familiar with! But yes, I did wonder if there was an option somewhere to suggest media properties to the makers of the quiz, but I didn’t see one
@kittyc lol exactly! but really, any character-based quiz that relies largely on characters from tv shows is not going to be successful for me, bc I simply do not watch much tv!
@soph_sol I always *think* I watch loads, but then I come to something like this and I recognise like one character from my top ten (who coincidentally isn’t from a tv show…). I think my viewing tends quite niche, and also I watched almost no tv growing up, and I grew up in a non-English speaking country, so my tv knowledge is very eclectic. Eg star trek, I’ve been meaning to get into for ca. 100 years but haven’t got round to.
@soph_sol but also the first star trek character on my list is at no.53, and i shudder to think what that says about me, but I’m sure it says *something*…
@kittyc hah! of my top 6 characters, half of them are star trek! (the other three are from The West Wing and Hannibal, two shows which I am never going to watch)
@kittyc yeah I uh have barely even watched any star trek tbh lol. I mostly know these characters from fic, and from friends talking about it!
for me, the only fiction tv I have watched since I started keeping track 12 years ago has been:
* The Long Ballad (only the first 20 episodes)
* Nirvana in Fire
* The Untamed
* Scumbag System
* The Witcher (only season 1)
* Ted Lasso (only season 1)
* Good Omens
* Yuri on Ice
* Letterkenny (only episode 1)
* Yuri on Ice again
* Galavant
* Highlander (only 7 episodes, cherry-picked from later seasons)
* Avatar: The Last Airbender (only the first 5 1/2 episodes)
and that is genuinely literally ALL. this does not go anywhere towards making me conversant with tv pop culture in general, and even less so in the anglosphere!
@soph_sol seems like a pretty exquisitely curated list to me, there’s several things on there I want to (one day) watch.
@kittyc thank you!! I do have an extensive list of other shows though that seem really to my taste and I'd love to watch them....and tbh I would love to FINISH a few of the shows on this list! but. I am who I am.
