I love video games, but I have never really been *good* at video games. I get destroyed whenever I play a competitive game online, but that doesn't bother me all too much - I'm just here to have a good time.
I have like, 1000 hours in TF2 from my college days and most of it comes from fucking around in casual custom map servers with wacky mods, and I was totally content with that.
I get pulverized into a puddle whenever I play Splatoon and have basically never tried half the game modes because they're locked behind ranked mode. I wish I could play them casually, but hey, as long as I'm covering ground in Turf War, I'm having a good time
I'm thinking about this all of a sudden because I'm watching NakeyJakey's latest video where he started getting into Counter Strike, and I now realize that I have a totally different mindset about gaming than people who get into it for competitive reasons.

@QuestForTori that's a good summary of my experience in Splat 2. The 3rd game had a roster of smaller levels that pushed for contact against players and I just didn't have any fun as I was trying to re-learn how to play.

Either the matchmaking struggled to pool people to the right levels or I was just struggling to pull the weight of my auto-attributed rank but it was definitely enough for me to drop the multiplayer altogether.

@QuestForTori so far I liked the story mode a lot and I still largely prefer the co-op mode, Salmon Run, which definitely deserves a better treatment. It's just bonkers and hella fun

@Ronflaix Totally, Splatoon 3 feels way more tuned towards aggressive play, and it makes it way less fun for causal players.

I've honestly been enjoying Splatoon 1's multiplayer a lot more lately (Playing on the Pretendo servers) since everything is so overpowered that it feels like I have a fighting chance, lol

@QuestForTori same. I just want to have a distracting time and enjoy myself.
@QuestForTori god yeah, same. That's why i barely engage with most shooters because I just want to click heads with friends even if i'm bad at it
