Went away. Camped. Saw birds. Ate food.
Would recommend.

Where did you go to see puffins?

I saw puffins in Newfoundland (Elliston) last summer. Soooo awesome.

@bjb This was around the Bempton Cliffs and Flamborough Head area in East Yorkshire.

Orkney is even better, but much much further away!

@jonpearce
I went to Orkneys a couple of decades ago for summer vacation, saw standing stones, Skara Brae, etc but did not know to look for puffins then. Loved Orkney. Would have liked to go to Shetland Islands too, but not enough time, sadly. Maybe in future.
@jonpearce
My (totally uninformed) theories: standing stones are like today's sports arenas. Skara Brae is like a present-day hotel/motel.
@bjb I went with pub. Standing stones make it easier to find against the moonlight to find everyone else for a good drink/smoke etc.
@bjb We saw lots of puffins on Westray and Papa Westray, but also saw some on the main island. Needs to be the right time of year, they only land for breeding, otherwise they live at sea.
@jonpearce
I was there a little after Summer Solstice, to take advantage of the long days. Puffins should have been there then, maybe with eggs or hatchlings in the nests. Would not be able to see chicks, but beaks would still be colourful.
