I enjoyed visiting it so I would say it's worth. The garden Koko-en right beside the castle is also very nice to visit. Himeji is easily reachable from Tokyo with Shinkanzen high speed trains and the main station is in walking distance from the castle: you actually see the station from the castle and viceversa as they sit at the ends of a wide boulevard.
