If you’re in the EU and you opted out of Meta training generative AI on your Facebook, Threads and Instagram posts and pictures, Meta are requiring you to opt out *again* or they will continue training on your data.

Users have until May 27 2025 to opt out again or forever lose the right. https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2025/05/meta-is-making-users-who-opted-out-of-ai-training-opt-out-again-watchdog-says/

This is the random ass opt out URL, which isn’t advertised in their apps: https://www.facebook.com/help/contact/6359191084165019

@GossiTheDog so uh, why do we believe that 'opting out' will make any difference what-so-ever?

All these shiny buttons we can press, saying 'privacy' on them. And we're banging away like monkeys, not grasping that the folks who built the machine with the buttons on it see us as... their monkeys.

@andymouse @GossiTheDog I think it makes a difference in the legal sense regardless of Meta honoring it, which in turn will get NGOs like @noybeu to sue

@frej

Ah, yes.. What a display of trust in law and order. Almost makes me feel peaceful myself - as if I can forget that it was the law and its emissaries who carried out the Holocaust and every other really heinous thing that ever happened to mankind.
