At #TRACCS RailDay I asked TTC Surface Track dept. about why they use single point instead of double point switches. Apparently the double point switches at Leslie Barns aren’t reliable and are frequently giving misaligned readings. Stuff also gets in the switches in road. @rmtransit.bsky.social

If that’s not shocking enough, apparently the subway also uses single point switches, which I just do NOT believe. @swanboatsteve.bsky.social The #MelbourneTram has grand unions and lots of switches embedded in mixed traffic and works fine. Why does the TTC have to stop & check at every switch!?
