@WiteWulf I really should listen to it again. I was obsessed with the Damned and the Pogues when it came out and used to fight with the rest of the 6th form common room to get it off the tape deck!

Mad how that has stuck with me for nearly 40 years!

#38 in the SDE Surround Series: Dire Straits / Brothers in Arms blu-ray audio

@artourter I have the original surround mix on a DTS-CD somewhere, it's very good.

But don't expect anything "new" from the high-res versions. It was recorded, mixed and mastered at 16-bit/44.1kHz, so there's no extra audio to be had, even on the studio masters 😀

@WiteWulf oh i know, i have the 20th anniversary sacd as well which i spin regularly. And yes it was recorded in digital 16/44.1 but it is still a really good disc. Although i read somewhere the mixing was done in analog but can't remember where. Doesn't change the fact that it is an amazing album. The bluray should also have the instrumental mix as well which should be fun
@artourter I remember being blown away the first time I heard it on CD, having only heard it on vinyl before. It was ten minutes longer for starters!
@WiteWulf yeah this album was made as a showcase for the cd technology. They really took great care of the whole process.
@WiteWulf Seeing you post this inspired me to give it a listen, for first time in a few years. The Dolby Atmos version on Apple Music sounds frickin’ amazing.
@pythoneer I don’t have AirPods, but have the version previously available on SACD. I imagine it’s very similar, and it’s a great surround mix. Proves Mr Wilson isn’t the be all and end all 😆
