I've read two different news articles about a lower tariff deal with China and neither one of them bothered to mention what the tariffs were prior to all this horseshit.

The US media is hot garbage.

@bigzaphod Just read this a few minutes before I saw your post. This article has them. For better or worse it was the first article I saw on the topic. I think @verge is doing some good work. https://www.theverge.com/news/664811/us-china-pause-tariffs-90-days
US and China slash tariffs

The United States and China have mutually agreed to major tariff reductions implemented in April for 90 days.

The Verge

@samlichlyter @verge unless I'm missing it or the article changed, I don't see anything saying what the tariffs were before this trade war stuff even started. That's the thing I was looking for - to set the context of this "victory."

Essentially, Trump made this problem himself. Now he's saying he's solved it and acting like it's a win. My gut says the level now is probably still *worse* than it was before he started this war - but I don't know and I can't find any article saying either way.

@bigzaphod @verge Oh gotcha! I misunderstood, I thought you meant before today. Yeah, that is a good point.

I did some googling and found this, looks like as of January 1, 2025 it was about 21%. So you’re right, a bit worse than before. It would be nice to see some of this historical data represented in these articles. I definitely agree with you.
