TIL: this is the Firefox feature I need to turn *off* to make address bar searches usable again
(this was apparently a new feature in Firefox 137 called “Search Term Persistence” https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/137.0/releasenotes/, but personally speaking, I know how to use the URL bar and search keywords, and it does *not* help me if Firefox, seemingly at random, sometimes makes the URL bar be pre-set to a search keyword and thus breaks me typing in the same or another search keyword or pasting in a URL etc. etc.)

@LucasWerkmeister yeah, I can see what they were going for, and it's been occasionally useful, but it seems to break things more often.
@anticomposite IIRC I just assumed it was a bug until I saw it in the release notes, like the address bar didn’t update after I pressed Enter or something

@LucasWerkmeister I actually love it (since it allows to switch between search engines easily) but maybe it’s because I don’t use a separate search bar like many do.

You can press Esc twice to get to the actual URL when that’s needed.
