1/ Saul Steinberg mural once in the Terrace Plaza Hotel in Cincinnati. Architects were in such short supply after WW II that Skidmore, Owings and Merrill had to let a woman design it, if you can believe that.
2/ This was SOM's first hotel and was remarkably pedestrian-hostile at street level. The windowless brick block contained a J C Penney store, and the hotel rooms were in a tower above.
3/ The hotel had a checkered history and, like many downtown monuments in American cities, finally died. For a while the brick block was an AT&T call center, if you can believe that.
