Meanwhile #StarTrek shows us other ships in a century of service... Look at all the Excelsior, Miranda, and Oberth class vessels on #DS9.
ARGVMI~1.PIFThe Constitution class, on the other hand, is nowhere to be seen. Seems like every single one of them has been decommissioned for some reason. Can't imagine why, when there are still plenty of Mirandas flying around…
As for the NX class, I can think of one good reason to decommission those: they don't have shields. Not great for your life expectancy when your enemies have transporters and photon torpedoes. It's a miracle nobody beamed a torp into the NX-01 engine room.
