Altman’s ‘plan to solve global warming by asking a nonexistent machine for three wishes:’
“I think once we have a really powerful super-intelligence, addressing climate change will not be particularly difficult…you can say, ‘Tell me how to make a lot of clean energy cheaply,’ ‘Tell me how to efficiently capture carbon,’ and then ‘Tell me how to build a factory to do this at planetary scale’ – if you can do that, you can do a lot of other things too.”

Tech oligarchs are gambling our future on a fantasy

Musk and Bezos are the heirs to a quasi-religious belief in tech salvation. The rest of us are stuck in the real world

@FrankPasquale

Obviously stupid on so many levels (both Altman AND AI).

Someone needs to explain to Sam that we actually already know what to do.

What he should ask his dumb ass machine is, "What is going to take to make jerks like Sam Altman do what they need to do rather than pretend some future generation is going to find a magical solution so jerks like me don't need to make any sacrifices."

Go ahead, Sam, ask the system and get the answer.

@FrankPasquale and if, very big if, this was possible IT would tell answers WE already know.
@FrankPasquale this is funny but in a very sad way..
@FrankPasquale What a coincidence that these are exactly the questions that the oil industry wants to see solved "capture carbon" is their mantra to keep on producing oil, ignore the fact that we already know how to make a lot of clean energy cheaply (and more cheaply every year) {wind, solar}
