Let people be happy the new pope isn't a nazi inquisitor who would accelerate us towards fascism and WW3
I really really need people to internalize that "oh thank fuck this person is not nearly as bad as the alternatives could have been" is not actually an endorsement

@eniko

Right! Like my first reaction when it was announced that a US-American had been elected pope was "Oh, shitshitshit!" Because, yknow some US-dioceses are known to be on the very extremely reactionary end of catholicism.
This guy at least sounds like he has potential for growth (like Francis, who some of my Latinamerican Boomers were very sceptical of and who turned out to be Not The Worstℒ️).

@eniko we are rising up from two popes who ordered, allowed or shrugged off priests being murdered for having lefty politics. Of course any improvement is a relief.
He's one of them church child molester hiders so they shouldn't be too happy
@eniko ikr I half expected a us puppet to be appointed when they said he was american
@[email protected] a few popes ago that one was a former member of the hitler youth πŸ’€
to be completely fair, being a former Hitler youth member doesn't mean you're a nazi, it means you were a child living in Germany during the 30s or 40s. that's not really something people chose to do themselves and also not necessarily a reflection on what their values would be as an adult.
not talking about that person specifically, just in general, to be clear
@[email protected] @[email protected] that's true. however, just like meeting a white person from south africa, i'm automatically extra suspicious of them
