I'm fairly sure I'm the only parent at school pickup that knows this massive hack:
You can park your car a block away and walk to the gate rather than circle the block vying for one of the two parks out the front.

@nacho_borracho Save even more time by giving the kid a bike and some solid lessons on road rules and safety. They will get to and from school entirely unaided for the next ten years or so PLUS they will be way better drivers when they are old enough to drive, PLUS you will not be contributing to the maelstrom of automobiles around the school twice a day PLUS it lets them realise from an early age that there are alternatives to the automobile. Or let them take the bus, if there is one. That teaches a bit of independence too.
This is not a swipe at you by the way. Just general notes.
I have had this exact conversation with someone whose child lived within easy walking distance of the school:
"Why not just let him walk?"
"No, I'd rather drive him there."
"How come?"
"It's safer."
"Safer than walking? In <this tiny rural town>?"
"Yeah, there are way too many cars around the school, I don't want him walking through that."
@kauer hell yeah. Mine are Year 1 and Year 3 and we're about 1.5kms to get there. The oldest does get there under his own steam (both bike and walk) a fair bit but the youngest isn't quite ready.
I cannot wait to be done with the school run. I don't know why so many parents persist rather than take the time getting them up to it.
Another secret hack they don't want you to know is:
get there 3 hours before school gets out, and grab that prime parking position!
You can then sit in the car for 3 hours posting on social media about the myriad ways in which the various teachers are failing to live up to the standards which your perfect little darling(s) deserve.
