From a completely unqualified anthropological standpoint, the strength of humanity seems to lie in our ability to adapt. Conservatism seems to be the born out of some misguided impulse to resist that ability.

@TheGreatLlama It would be one thing if they were merely an inertial force resisting progress in the belief that old, established ways are stable and superior. They would still be wrong. But they wouldn't be outright evil.

Instead, yeah, they seem to have chugged the Anti-Life Equation and are hell bent on destroying us all out of religious mania, greed, or whatever reason.

I sometimes think that the core of it comes down to miserable people who just can't stand to see anyone else enjoying life. They can't be happy and they'll burn the whole world to avoid anyone else getting one over on them.
