Hi pals, I'm launching a new project today called Show Up Toronto!! It's a website and weekly newsletter that aggregates organizing/advocacy/direct action events in the city so you can find out how to get involved without having to be on Facebook/Instagram. First email goes out tomorrow, sign up and tell your friends https://showuptoronto.ca

The original seed of this project actually came from a question I asked on Fedi a few months ago, which is: where is leftist organizing happening in Canada? I've spent a lot of time talking to people since trying to answer that question, and while this isn't the answer to that question yet, I figured if I was having trouble finding things other people probably would be too and we should find out together.
Also, whether you're in Toronto or not you should read the manifesto which I'm genuinely quite proud of. https://showuptoronto.ca/manifesto

LASTLY: if you're part of a group that organizes in the city, put me in touch! I want to include the events you're putting on, but just as importantly I want to talk to you about how you organize for a larger research project. DM me for email!

@phire It's a good manifesto and you are right to be proud of it.

Also, it is a delight to see you out and doing your thing in the world. I wish you every success and happiness.

@dubious_dragon Thank you Karl, I appreciate you!
@phire love this, couldn't agree more about needing to get off devices to meet in person. We need a Victoria version!

@phire Re: alternatives to Google Forms, @Framasoft's Framaforms comes to mind (do note the limits though): https://framaforms.org/abc/en/

How are you hosting things?

@nev It’s in Hawk Host’s Toronto data centre!
@phire oh, I mean like, is self-hosting something feasible?
@nev Ohhh okay yeah I could, but at that point I’d rather just write my own solution into the current code that handles the three fields I need.
@nev Sorry, I feel like this was very dismissive and I don't mean it to be. I am very tired lol.
@phire no worries, I didn't read it that way!
