✈️🇺🇦 Ukrainian pilots will train in the Czech Republic on JAS-39 Gripen and F-16, — Zelensky.
@MAKS23 I wish #Ukraine could have those #JAS39 #Gripen soon, they can be nasty as they just need a stretch of road to take off and land, which make them quite independent of traditional airports.

@aho @MAKS23

So true !!! 😎 Why so many European countries managed to buy the F-16 instead of the much cheaper and way more convenient JAS-39 Gripen, is way beyond me! 😏

@Davexxx @MAKS23 it did have some issues in the early days and then also Sweden couldn't match USA when it came to economical benefits. Also Sweden always had too few in reserve to make a fast deal.

Let see, Ukraine been interested of them as they can handle rougher environment than the F16, so maybe we will see some sales and also that USA has turn out to be an unreliable partner also helps potential sales

@aho @MAKS23

Not being dependent on a proper airfield for fueling and otherwise normal action is a huge advantage. Also, as you mentioned, the US has become a country run by a pretty sick bunch of freaks! Not someone to trust enough to team up with - not for serious matters like buying war equipment, anyway. 😮

@aho @MAKS23 Glad Ukraine will get a squadron of Gripen, but they are older versions and as vulnerable to SAMs and Russian fighters as the F16. A few Gripen armed with Meteor and powerful radars could push Russian fighters back and protect the frontlines, but without it, they have the same limitations as the F16 and Mirage. It’s good but not enough to change the current situation. Russia has a technological advantage in the air domain, and old Western fighters can't bridge that gap.
@luqu @MAKS23 I doubt a handful aricrafts would change anything regardless of model, unless they are UFO's, but if someone had those and could deliver them, are they still UFO's or IFO's ? 😜
@aho @MAKS23 True, but the Meteor air-to-air missile and a modern radar would give them a range advantage against Russian aircraft. Even in limited numbers, they could serve to push Russian fighters launching glide bombs further back from the front lines. When Ukraine deployed a patriot launcher close to the front, it had that effect until it was destroyed.
@luqu @MAKS23 would the Saab 340 ASC 890 be able to substitute the radar issue? Sure it wouldn't be any optimal solution, but at least keep the pilot aware of threats they can't normally see and maybe we will see something domestically built that could match Meteor, or a drone variation 😜 not sure if the C/D model will be equipped with MS20 Block 3 upgrades or not, but I guess the MS20 Block 4 had been more interesting for Ukraine.
@aho @MAKS23, the Meteor has a range of 200 km, and I believe the radar needs to match that capability to be effective. As for the radar with wings, I assume it will be placed at a considerable distance from the front, as it is both vulnerable and valuable, with no replacements available. I'm not an expert, I just watched a few videos on YouTube 🤷‍♂️. If you want more reliable information, Justin Bronk has some insightful interviews on this topic.
@luqu @MAKS23 read that the detection range is 300-400km at ~6000m over sea level, so if it's 100km behind the JAS, it would still be able to see the target 200km away. Sure you don't want to loose the Saab ASC 890 and also they limited to 5 hours of flight time, so you either want to have one constantly up in the sky or both to cover a larger area at the same time, but then you end up time you are blind for a while.
At least we can speculate and make up things when not having all the details 😜
