Switzerland is turning its railway tracks into solar power plants.

A startup called Sun-Ways is installing removable solar panels between active train tracks in Neuchâtel without consuming new land. Imagine using this in Germany's 33000 km rail network.

@leonardneamtu Yeah I saw this, but I'm skeptical. Stuff falls off trains, especially in the winter, and this is the most likely place to damage a solar panel.

Railways have so much other land they could use for solar panels — in yards and stations and along the line — this seems like a publicity stunt.

But I'd be willing to see if it works.
