Mexico City bans violent bullfighting in bid to keep the tradition, but without the bloodshed

Mexico City lawmakers overwhelmingly approve legislation to keep the bullfighting tradition alive, while also keeping the bulls alive.

@aggyanubis Finally! What'd those bulls ever do to you you didn't deserve?
@aggyanubis. Are ANY of you Mexican? A tradition of five centuries doesn’t just disappear. La corrida has been in decline for decades, but in this small town in wintering in, there have been three bullfights including NYE. I attended two of these, both were near sellouts, indicating a general popularity.

Yes they are popular in some places more than others here in MΓ©xico. And as you point out it has been in decline and some town organizers have been relegating them to "festive" dates because of falling interest but as you also state, it will take a few decades before it's over for good.

@aggyanubis

Isn't this from March? And only violent bullfighting was banned.

@aggyanubis Maybe they can bring bullfighting back - by replacing the bull with a Boston Dynamics robot (the one in the picture is big enough).

@aggyanubis As we say in Catalonia (and I believe in other parts of Spain as well):
'If bullfighting is culture, cannibalism is gastronomy'
Great! Someday we'll put an end to this cruel slaughter everywhere.
@aggyanubis well, that’s a great news! The less unnecessary animal suffering the better.
