The Stockholm Convention regulates some of the world’s most dangerous chemicals. In 2023, Parties adopted a resolution that would ban UV-328, a persistent organic pollutant (#POPs) that is used as a UV absorber in plastics, paints, and food packaging.
#UV328 is persistent and bioaccumulating, with adverse effects on organs including the liver and kidneys. At this year’s #BRSCOP, countries introduced a resolution that would allow countries to apply for brand-new exemptions.

The #StockholmConvention has never reopened a ban, and this would create a dangerous precedent for re-negotiating some of the world's most dangerous chemicals.

Countries must stand strong and not give in to pressure — keep the ban on UV-328.
