TIL: @nickfarr doesn't know "Sendung mit der Maus". 🤯

A while ago I said "the guy with the funny helmet carrying my DNS request must have tripped", when diagnosing some issue and I got the weirdest blank looks from my colleagues.

Turns out none of my colleagues grew up with German television, so nobody knew how the internet actually works.

Die Seite mit der Maus - Internet

Armin erklärt, wie das Internet funktioniert. Er zeigt, was passiert, wenn man eine Seite aufruft und die Daten in den Kabeln unterwegs sind.

classic ... thanks for reminder :)
@sebastian @flowfx @nickfarr Unironcially one of the best explanations of the internet for childen of all ages.
@sebastian @flowfx @nickfarr This is actually adorable. Going to share this with anyone who asks me "how does the internet work" from now on.
@sebastian
Thanks for reminding me of this masterpiece

Ich glaube das Modem hatte ich auch. *altfühl*

@sebastian Das ist fantastisch!

@sebastian
I know that feeling. Referring to TV shows of your childhood. Then your colleagues are either too old to have seen them, as they didn't watch kids TV back then, or they were not born yet 😅

@flowfx @nickfarr

@hikhvar In my case it's a very international team. The intersection set of shows we watched as children is rather small.

@flowfx @nickfarr

@sebastian

Oh that as well. I took a bit of time to adopt to international memes only. Stuff like "Anzeige ist raus" or "Küchenblechmafia" doesnt work in international teams 😅 @flowfx @nickfarr

@sebastian @flowfx @nickfarr the internet is powered by Spaceballs?! That explains a lot!
@sebastian @flowfx @nickfarr I don’t know german, but this was still an excellent watch.
@sebastian @flowfx @nickfarr I wonder what the German equivalent of "BBC voice" is? I no longer speak enough German to understand that fluently but it's really clearly spoken and well articulated.

@sebastian @flowfx @nickfarr @jay_peper My goodness! Modems! That brings back memories! And even though I'm not fluent in German, that's still a great explanation of how things work.

One thing though. We now know it's not people making the internet work. It's cats. Which explains a lot. 😸

@sebastian @flowfx @nickfarr

Am I the only one tripping over the fact that they were showing a local HTML file from their D: drive instead of the actual internet site at second 9 of the video? 😣
