@ned Even without the billionaire example, why do people buy nice clothes or subscribe to Disney+ or buy a car instead of taking transit? They could work like two days a week, earn their basic needs, and stop. Why do they keep working and spending???

@raganwald @ned I can tell you that I don’t take transit. It’s because we don’t have transit where I live. There is zero public transportation here. In the two cities nearest me there are city buses that circle the city, and then there are commuter buses that go between the two cities a couple times a day. But each of these cities is 10 miles away from me, and the last time I got on that commuter bus it was like $23 to go from one city to the next.

And even if we did suddenly get public transportation, people refuse to stop spreading airborne viruses, and as someone whose life was destroyed by a virus, I am unwilling to become infected by any of these gross people.

If I don’t have a car I will die. I cannot get to a doctors office, I cannot get medication, the only place I can get food from is Walmart. Can you imagine that life? It wouldn’t last very long. I only weigh 44 kg how long do you think I could go without food?
