Natasha Nox ๐บ๐ฆ๐ต๐ธ@ZikZak @gamingonlinux It's okay for now. Native versions will always be less headache for devs, once there are enough potential customers so it makes financial sense as well as a predictable runtime environment (Flatpak and Snap) they'll start targeting the system more.

You don't need to be and you can install non-steam games on Steam Deck...
ie. battle.net and the people behind Proton are even improving the experience for installing battle.net

I'm playing a lot of battle.net games...also at one point Valve banned me for a game dev being an oversensitive pr***. I've not forgiven Valve for that...still...

iams@ciggysmokebringer @gamingonlinux If I can recall how I put Java on my deck I'll update here - but I got a few instances of modded Minecraft going on it without fault. Checking if, say, PrismLauncher has something... anddd here's a link to their Java installation instructions page (which has linux support): https://prismlauncher.org/wiki/getting-started/installing-java/ If I'm not very badly mistaken, this should help!
Will give this a go later tonight. I've mostly have been able to move all my gaming to the Steamdeck bar one free game I've been playing for over a decade. I've only ever been able to find forum/reddit posts that are adjacently related, nothing directly about this, and they all usually tap out after 2-3 replies and that's it.
@ciggysmokebringer @gamingonlinux You may need to mess with permissions. Some would advise installing into the home directory. Flatpak has a version as well. You may need to path to it in the environment. YMMV. Fingers crossed the command-line args are all you need. I hear you on the old-n-gold, I always have to do horrific things to make my favourites work. ;)

contrasocialWhen someone makes a linux distro that actually does the thing people want in the way they want, they have no problem embracing it.
Now the linux dev community just need to make a desktop OS with the same philosophy.
