I’m not worried Chat GPT will take my job, I’m worried about the people who will be hurt by incompetent tech bros who convince vulnerable people that GPT could take my job.
@dramypsyd did you happen to see 404medias's article from this morning on exactly this? https://www.404media.co/instagram-ai-studio-therapy-chatbots-lie-about-being-licensed-therapists/
Instagram's AI Chatbots Lie About Being Licensed Therapists

When pushed for credentials, Instagram's user-made AI Studio bots will make up license numbers, practices, and education to try to convince you it's qualified to help with your mental health.

@letsgoat I didn’t but oh my god!!

@dramypsyd @letsgoat not shure how regulated stuff is in the USA still but last time I checked claiming academic and espechally medical credentials was some serious shit that got people in jail...

  • FOR ALL THE RIGHT REASONS!
@kkarhan @letsgoat Oh it’s not regulated here at all!

@dramypsyd @letsgoat really?

Cuz in Germany people would face jailtime for such fraud, as false medical credentials are seen as something not taken lightly here…

  • It makes me question the "value" & "quality" of U.S. healthcare even harder, cuz that's some super-basic accreditation and due diligence by the respectable medical bar association.
@kkarhan @letsgoat Sorry I meant AI isn’t regulated - providers have licensure that’s overseen but for whatever reason anybody can make a bot and call it a therapist with no accountability

@dramypsyd @letsgoat "Yikes!"

  • I'm glad this doesn't work here as it would also fall under "unlicensed practice" and "medical credential fraud" as the title of "therapist" itself already implies it, just like lawyer, accountant, tax advisor, and doctor.

It's just shocking given the long-term effects and potential damages warrant such strict regulations.

  • But then I'm reminded that in the same place there are ads for prescription opioids on TV - stuff that isn't even legal to advertise here.
@kkarhan @letsgoat Oh it's definitely unlicensed practice, but the bot doesn't have a licensing board to report to. Basically we need the law to catch up!!

@dramypsyd @letsgoat nodds in agreement

  • I guess the laws need to specify any practice and not merely "person practicing" or some other legalese semantics that #TechBros seem to exploit as of now.

Problem is they have more money than sense and propably will stall #regulation with it as hard as they can, and I'm convinced they'd rather upsell a "solution" (i.e. "AI behaviour analysis" flagging people who are able and/or willing to self-defend as "dangerous") to the problem they cause or accelerate than stop unethical shite…
