Linux Vendor Firmware Service (LVFS) is a portal that allows hardware vendors to upload firmware updates and users to update device firmware via the fwupd daemon.

Firmware/BIOS updates are automated.

Data is stored in the United States via a Amazon Web Services (AWS) data center.

@blueghost it's a little more nuanced, the client machine ID is only stored for report uploads. It's a delicate balance between privacy and being able to deal with ITAR/EAR legal issues and dealing with abuse.
