#OtD 28 Apr 1945 Italy's fascist dictator, Benito Mussolini, was executed by anti-fascist partisans. His body was then hung up in Milan's Piazzale Loreto, a square in which 15 partisans had been killed and left publicly to rot the previous year https://workingclasshistory.com/podcast/e77-80-italian-resistance/
E77-80: Italian resistance

@workingclasshistory All mobs are liable to become barbarians
@patcanfield @workingclasshistory Would you have liked him to have a proper burial and a respectful ceremony? His supporters gather every year for that if you're interested.

@workingclasshistory

For some reason I always remember this photo as him hanging from a lamp post.

Ah well, I guess it's high enough off the ground either way for a fascist.

@workingclasshistory That's what happens to dictators once they pass their "use by" date. Hitler, Ceaucescu, Hoxha - just a few examples.

@workingclasshistory

Credited with executing Mussolini.

It should be a warning to all fascists…

@workingclasshistory I usually avoid images of corpses. Especially videos. But watching Mussolini's beaten husk getting dragged around and dangling in the wind alongside his cronies always fills me with joy.

His body was stomped on, spat on, and pissed on before they strung him up so the crowd could continue to have something to cheer at.
Ceaucescu was shot in some basement. Gadaffi was beaten to death by an angry mob in the street.

I hope we see #DonaldTrump join them soon.
