I did my first Mouser Electronics order in quite a while. I bought some special Pots to fix and restore my original, American made Mackie 1202. It's been a back-burner project for quite some time.

I also paid my first Tariff that I'm aware of. They had a line-item for it. It wasn't a huge order and the estimated Tariff was about $2.50, but still...

FUCK THE CHEETOH.

@Ricardus Ooh, I wish I still had my OG, entirely rectangular 1202. I have no real use for a little mixer anymore, but I truly appreciated its boxy chonk.

@rossgrady @Ricardus

Mixers are just inherently cool.

@Professor_Stevens @rossgrady They solve a lot of problems for sure.
@rossgrady It's useful for so many things. I'm going to recap it and swap out the opamps. The phantom power voltage is also low so I'll need to check that.

@Ricardus

I hate tariffs and I hate that Trump is president. But I love businesses splitting out the tariff surcharge. That way, anyone paying it knows exactly whom to blame.

@Professor_Stevens For sure.

It was just nice to do another Mouser order. Back in the day I was doing 2 a month.

@Ricardus

Before Mouser, there was Jameco (earlier, James, and ever more earlier, Allied). I ordered my first 7400-series TTL chips and some LEDs from those guys. Made a four-bit binary adding machine, even, when I was 15 years old.

Those were the days, eh?

@Professor_Stevens I still order from Jameco.

Back in the day when I was building projects from Popular Electronics I could get most of what I needed from Radio Shack.

Mouser is my main go-to, and Digikey is 2nd.

@Ricardus

We travel in similar circles. My other two go-tos are Adafruit and Gigaparts.

@Professor_Stevens I have about a dozen others that I go to that aren't big at all. A few houses that carry a lot of New Old stock items. A place called small bear electronics that used to be out of Brooklyn that carries weird things and useful things from time to time. There's a supplier that supplies for building guitar pedals and they have stuff I use from time to time, and I use a couple of the places for tubes like Tube depot.

@Ricardus

Tubes! My God, man, if I ever have to work with tubes again, it will be twenty-billion years too soon.

Transistors, baby. They're the future.

@Professor_Stevens But they (transistors) were invented by a Eugenicist. 🙂

Tubes breathe fire and shit. I love them.

I have everything I need to finish this tube mic preamp but I haven't committed to the build yet. Ideally I need a drill press because I don't want to suffer through drilling holes by hand again.

@Ricardus

Well, Shockley appears to have snapped some time after he helped invent the transistor, though who knows when those seeds were planted?

@Professor_Stevens Yeah, I think it came after the invention, but it is a thing.

As is the transistor. 🙂
