Trumps tax-talk is deliberate.
Trump claims to MAGAs and voters, that with tariffs, he can generate as much money from other nations as the amount generated by US citizens at home from income tax.
Except we know that the tariff trope is a myth.
The monies generated are paid initially by the importing US-based companies. Those importers then pass the tariff fees to the US customers.
The tariff money generated is in fact an INDIRECT tax.
Income tax by comparison is a DIRECT tax, which Trump is now saying he intends to abolish and replace with tariff money aka INDIRECT tax.
With tariffs on Chinese imported goods at well over 100% and tariffs on other countries anything from 10-60% , the average American could pay well over double on their purchases.
To someone like Musk paying $250 × 2 on a weekly food shop, is nothing; a tiny percentage of their monthly disposable income.
However $250 × 2 to someone on minimum wage, with two jobs, is a massive % increase in expenditure from their disposable income.
Add to that increases in fuel, car parts, household goods, clothes, building materials etc etc which will hit the average working/middle class Americans VERY hard.
So would the average citizen rather pay the set % that determines their income tax?
OR a random fluctuating purchase taxes (aka tariffs) that are applied randomly by retailers on EVERYTHING they buy ?
Additionally...
WHAT happens when Trump supposedly brings ALL manufacturing back to USA? No more tariffs from overseas... so no more tariffs passed from importer to customer.
So what's going to fill the federal coffers with all those millions of dollars ???
And.... what happens if workers get manufacturing jobs making chips/ machine parts/ cars/ clothes at the same minimal wage as Chinese workers? American factory workers will have even less disposable income to pay for all those goods at double the price.
None of this Trump nonsense adds up.
Of course.
