Baby’s first OSL!

(It me. I am baby)

#starwarslegion

First finished mini of (Imperial?) March!

#starwarslegion

I have painting failures too; this guy (3D printed from Artisan Guild) wasn’t turning out how I wanted so I stopped half way.

I’ll see if I can rescue it when I’m in the mood

Finally started painting the display board that’s been hanging on my wall for a few years. Terrain is hard!

#warhammer

Looking better already! Still have the raised area to do, but I’ll get there

#warhammer

On the painting table tonight

#warhammer

Not too bad, for a test model. It’s a lot smaller than it looks, but I’ll have an easier time with it when my new brushes get here. Not a particularly difficult scheme, thankfully!

#warhammer

And… done!

#warhammer

Tiny boy!

#warhammer

It’s new brush day! Trying out Artis Opus this time. €100 doesn’t get you an awful lot of sable these days… 😅

#warhammer

Putting the new brushes to work!

#warhammer

Ready for those finishing touches

#warhammer

Finally pushed through to the finish on these two. My new Artis Opus brushes are fantastic, now I just need to get better at using them 👌

At least basing is the fun part

#warhammer

Basing begins.

One thing new I’m doing on this batch is going back in and manually adding shading and black lining after the fact, which makes all the difference

#warhammer

Project complete!

#warhammer

Current status: very carefully trying to paint a model past me glued together and didn’t have the foresight to make in subassemblies…

#warhammer

When I’m just doing one, I’m much faster! Maybe batch painting is what’s been killing me

#warhammer

Particularly love how this cloak turned out. I still need a lot of practice

#warhammer

Honestly not a very complicated model or paint job. Another couple of sessions should be all I need

#warhammer

Successful shoulder pad 👌

#warhammer

Final touches.

#warhammer

Nailed it!

#warhammer

I have the power (sword)!

#warhammer

Captain complete!

#warhammer

On the turntable, since this model arguably looks better from the back than from the front 😂

#warhammer

Attempting a pox walker test model, since I can’t find a decent box art tutorial. I don’t have my recipe 100% right yet, but it’s not too far off

#warhammer

Not as many materials on this guy as you might think 🤔

#warhammer

I think I pulled it off? He looks reasonably close to the box art version

#warhammer

All done! One tiny little Nurgle Poxwalker test model

(Recipe included)

#warhammer

Poxwalker no. 2. These guys are fun to paint, as a little goes a long way, and every single model is unique

#warhammer

And this guy is done, too!

#warhammer

Already making a difference to the shelf. Now I just need to rescue the rest out from under the layer of dust 😝

#warhammer

Number three.

#warhammer

Midpoint

#warhammer

Nearly there! Those pants turned out way better than I expected

#warhammer

Poxwalker no. 3 complete!

#warhammer

One thing I'm noticing, doing these poxwalkers, is that it's really satisfying finishing one miniature at a time. It's quicker, I'm having more fun, and the variation makes each one interesting. I'm also more willing to try more advanced things, like mixing, glazing, etc, because I only have to worry about what's in front of me, and as a result I am learning and (I think I’m) getting better at this with each one. Batch painting doesn't give me that same dopamine hit

#warhammer

Poxwalkers on the turntable 😄

#warhammer

Art vs reference photos

#warhammer

Next up

#warhammer

Halfway! The earthworm tentacles were fun

#warhammer

If you think painting miniature eyes is bad, wait till you try teeth 😅

#warhammer

At least my brush is up to it!

#warhammer

Just a few more elements to finish now!

#warhammer

Almost started painting the base before painting the horns 🤦‍♂️ Disaster averted

#warhammer

Four for four

#warhammer

On the one hand, painting Poxwalkers to this standard takes a certain kind of madness…

On the other hand, they look sooo goood 🤤

#warhammer

New techniques time! Not 100% sure this is giving me what I’m looking for, but I’ll play it out and see

#warhammer

Might have to shelve this guy for a few days; need some colors I don’t want to have to mix, so I gotta pick up some paints before I continue. The blues are making for an interesting tint, too

#warhammer

Inquisitor on the painting desk tonight

#warhammer

Reasonable progress on this guy! Capturing the right facial expression makes or breaks a mini like this

#warhammer

Right now, cloaks are my least favorite thing to paint. Blending is hard

#warhammer

Starting to come together. I’m kinda procrastinating until my new paints get here, but it’s nearly done

#warhammer

(His mecha xenomorph buddy is up next)

#warhammer

Little bit of blu-tac to hold him together temporarily!

#warhammer

My first Inquisitor! Real happy with how closely I could match him to the box art. Still some cleanup to do (he’s not glued to the base yet), but overall great mini

#warhammer

Progressing this Poxwalker a little bit

#warhammer

He’s in better shape today for sure. Still gotta figure out those tentacles though

#warhammer

If I’m to make any progress on my backlog at all, I need to work on more than one mini per day 😅 That’s a pretty fking tall order…

#warhammer

Poxwalker 5 and 6 should be done tomorrow 👌

#warhammer

Little morning diversion. Saw a great painted commissar online and it spurred me into action

#warhammer

@stroughtonsmith Have you got any shots of your entire collection?
@jordan I do not! There's not enough of the whole painted for me to take photos, and there's a lot of stuff still in boxes, not assembled, when you're talking about the 'entire’ collection 😅
@stroughtonsmith Very nice! I love the colors.

@stroughtonsmith I’d actually forgotten all about the green one.

What a fantastic group!!! :)

@Verxion I've got a lot painted these past few months!

@stroughtonsmith 4 Poxwalkers can now be considered a ‘mob’ I’m sure! They look great, I’m a fan of the box art look too.

My partners first painted mini was a poxwalker from the Dark Imperium box, she dubbed him “Monsieur 3-arms” and he still has pride of place in our Detolf!

@martinbuckler do share!
@stroughtonsmith Here he is, though she moved away from the poxwalkers once she discovered how many vampire minis were available …
@martinbuckler really nicely painted! Those vampires too — I have the one with the long red hair and the bats in my queue, have a box here
@stroughtonsmith Where do you store all those figures?
@ramzesenok the painted ones go in the Detolf (IKEA)
@stroughtonsmith @ramzesenok I’d expect it to be full by now😄

@ramzesenok I'm just swapping the unpainted ones with the painted ones 😉

https://mastodon.social/@stroughtonsmith/114377389826111431

@stroughtonsmith @ramzesenok Ah wow! I remember you’ve been posting about painting those figures a few years ago, I wonder how many are there if you still have more to paint
@ramzesenok about 30 years worth
@stroughtonsmith @ramzesenok 🤯 crazy
And you never pained any of those up until a few years ago?
@ramzesenok I painted some, but I didn't have the skills and didn't want to ruin them before I could pull it off. I'm finally at a stage where I'm comfortable enough to tackle the harder things
