I think it was Timothy Snyder that wrote an excellent analysis where he explains that one of Putin's aims is to destabilize global democracies so that Russia looks less like the trainwreck of human rights that it is.
Divide and conquer.
And to be fair, US democracy has been a joke since long before Putin got interested in meddling with it.
Or at least that's how I understand it.
It will also make it easier for Krasnov to send autistic people to concentration camps when he runs out of those other people to blame for his failures.
