@jonathanfoyle.bsky.social Also in case of natural disasters. The lab & all facilities of the Maritime Archaology Unit of Sri Lanka were lost in the 2004 tsunami. The multi-year excavation of the 'Avondster' shipwreck had been completed days before, & all artefacts returned to the sea. However, recording & offsite backup ensured that most of the knowledge was retained.
