BETTER idea: Canada is ALREADY ruled by the British Monarchy; so the Empire should be re-established with it's capital in Ottawa, London and the UK as dominions, and Canada gets the nuclear launch codes. King Chuckles can keep Buckingham Palace as a winter residence but move to Ottawa for official purposes.

@cstross that’s basically what happened when Napoleon invaded Portugal and their king relocated to Brazil, turning Portugal into a de jure dependency of the Empire of Brazil.

That said, the 1975 Constitutional Crisis in Australia, where a democratically elected Prime Minister was dismissed by the representative of the Queen, shows how the noxious Battenberg, Sachsen, Coburg und Gotha family still has far more power than their claimed ceremonial role. Charles was deeply involved in the plotting, and unlike his mother, too stupid to avoid leaving a paper trail.
