Why I love modernising applications: converting 20-year old Perl code to fancy PHP 8.4 components and you get an enormous performance boost out of the box, easier maintenance and above all: very happy customers! What's not to like, right?!? #LovingMyJob #ApplicaitonModernisation
@dragonbe that sounds like a fun project! Perl was my first professional language. But with all the improvements PHP has made over the years, i could never go back to Perl in a serious way. it might be fun to dabble though 😄

@awoodsnet 🤣 Perl was the reason that I learned PHP... 🙈

@dragonbe

@heiglandreas @awoodsnet LOL, I thought you once said it was because of Java Server Pages (JSP)... but it could be someone else as well 🤪

@dragonbe No. That wasn't me. I never understood JSP but in the late 1990s Perl was the option. And I looked at it and and checked what else there was to handle POST requests from forms.... 🤣

Also probably a reason why I prefer a more verbose notation.... 🙈

/cc @awoodsnet

@awoodsnet Yup, it's a great project. And my regex skills have been improved since I started the project.
@awoodsnet BTW, beautiful how these Perl apps closed their processing back in the day ✨
@dragonbe Nice! i like it when people get more comfortable using regex. it’s an under appreciated skill.
