This pīwakawaka visitation thing is getting out of hand. I had my doors and windows open this morning and two of them flew through the house and into my lounge. They danced little circles around my head as I opened the sliding door.

As one left via the front door, the other one shot through the house and out the back door.

I feel like they're playing with me.

@BobLefridge They are. And it's fucking beautiful.

Each tiny encounter makes my day.

@BobLefridge Were it not for your post, how should I've learned this bit? I could have read the Wikipedia caption below, and learned nothing.

"The fantail is one of New Zealand’s best known birds, with its distinctive fanned tail and loud song, and particularly because it often approaches within a metre or two of people. Its wide distribution and habitat preferences, including frequenting well-treed urban parks and gardens, means that most people encounter fantails occasionally."

I live by a beach surrounded by native bush, and they love my modest manukas. Each year I have daily encounters in the garden and often inside the house.

This little bloke in the photos is my mate from 2020... Little Peep. He'd come to the front door every day, sit under the wisteria and call until I came out for a chat. He was one of the seriously chatty ones and my favourite pīwakawaka to date.
