Earth Day 2025 — Our Power. Our Planet.

The world must triple renewable energy by 2030 to avert climate catastrophe. Northern Ireland has the potential to lead this charge, yet political inaction is holding us back.

Thanks to Greens MLAs in Stormont, the NI Executive passed the Climate Change Act in 2022 setting a legally binding target of 80% renewable electricity by 2030. But progress has stalled.

1/3

Renewable electricity generation has declined from 51.6% in 2022 to 45.8% in 2023. Only four new wind farms have been connected to the grid this decade, totalling just 108MW. Planning delays and a lack of market support are significant barriers to meeting these targets.

🗣Ask your MLA - where’s the urgency? Where’s the plan?

2/3

We must hold the Executive accountable and demand the future we deserve. Northern Ireland has the resources to lead — but we need political courage, not delay. While other regions invest in wind, solar, and tidal power, we’re stuck with rising bills and empty promises.
