1/ 🧵 Garden inspo is always so green and abundant and perfect. But sometimes it's not like that in real life. I believe in Truth in Gardening.

Here are some of my tomato seedlings this year. They are weak and spindly and the older branches are dying at the tips and falling off. Apparently I have a soil-borne disease in my starter mix, probably fusarium. It possibly came in from the compost, I don't really know. These seedings are a total loss, they will go into the trash. ☹️

Ah, bummer. So even if planted out there is no chance of recovery?

Good point on gardening and how socmed can give the impression of perfection when gardening is really filled with failures for everyone. Maybe we need some sort of "garden fail" hashtag to share when things go wrong, haha

@aosmith16 There are some heirlooms that are so vigorous they can outgrow soil diseases, but these are not that vigorous.

More importantly if there’s fusarium in the starter mix, if I plant them I get it in my garden beds, and it doesn't go away. This is also why the plants need to be trashed vs composted.

#GardenFail is an excellent idea! I would have a lot to contribute to that. 😆
