I recently finished Monster.

Please recommend similarly unconventional (and recent!) anime that is NOT: shonen (or with a main protagonist described as "high schooler"), issekai, sports, porn

@afreytes I haven't watched #monster just read the blurb on #AniList. My tastes tend to be mainstream, but here's four that you might like if you haven't seen them:
#ApothecaryDiaries - currently running. Just aching to be made into a K-Drama live action.
#MadeInAbyss - journey to the center
#TheGreatPassage - slice of life on how to write a dictionary
#Shirobako - where does anime come from.

Also, I second the vote for Princess Principal. You might want to check Wikipedia and watch the episodes in chronological order rather than as they are presented.

@afreytes BTW, #Shirobako (two seasons) is about making anime, if you look at it as managing software development projects you'll find it works out equally as well. Particularly Season 2, where they have to deal with subcontractors.
