So, who among us is celebrating tax day by wondering whether our Federal Taxes will go towards the purposes set by Congress or whether they will end up being mis-applied by FFOTUS or simply stolen by one of the maga or Doggie goons now filling out government?
@karlauerbach Yeah, I was pondering this when I mailed in a check yesterday.
@ai6yr @karlauerbach If memory serves, and the law hasn't been changed, I seem to recall in Jr High civics, that there was a provision that if you donated enough money the right way to the right charities and you wouldn't have to pay taxes. Of course, this was in the 80's & things may have changed.

@samhainnight @ai6yr Here in the US the Federal tax laws were changed under TFG's first reign. The laws were designed to punish those with a liberal, generous frame of mind - such as those who give to non-religious charities.

My wife and I donate a large part of our yearly income to charitable groups - particularly the performing arts. Under the US Income tax laws as changed by FFOTUS we lost the deduction for that. Fortunately, for us, we had another option, which is available only for older people, which is to donate directly from qualified retirement savings (e.g. IRA, SEP, etc) to a charity under the "required minimum distribution" (RMD) that must be taken out every year.

Charitable deductions are, I believe, still available if one's income is sufficiently large, but we aren't making tens of $millions every year.

@karlauerbach Certainly thought about this when filing a couple days ago.
