"The European Commission has just told its 450 million residents to assemble a 72-hour survival kit. The kit should include matches, three days worth of food and water, a torch, a Swiss army knife, and card games (cute) etc, in preparation for the “challenges that cannot be ignored”, namely war, natural disaster, pandemics and civil unrest.

In the coming weeks, France will be distributing a 20-page booklet detailing 63 measures to take, including information that encourages its citizens to join defence initiatives like the reserve forces, and reminders to seal doors and windows 🫤 in the event of nuclear fallout"

@Heliograph @_MillieRooney I was in the Girl Guides about 60 years ago. The motto was "Be Prepared". A pocket knife clipped to a belt was part of our uniform. Our ties doubled as triangular bandages. We learned to erect a shelter with sticks and rope and cook a meal over a camp fire.

Doesn't look so silly now.

@anne_twain @Heliograph @_MillieRooney All this disaster prepping! There are ppl in #Straya with whole bedrooms full of prep stuff, and they go way back to pre covid times. Crazy! #subtoot
But yeah, I agree that guides and scouts will have a head start. 😆

@sister_ratched I was inspired by the news that the EU is encouraging people to put together an emergency kit including a Swiss Army Knife ( I'd personally go for one that includes a saw blade and scissors.)

I'm definitely keeping more in my pantry than I used to before the pandemic arrived.
