I've been cleaning some donated Lego (which includes a fair amount of non-Lego and some Lego-oid competitors). Naturally there are lots of colours and shapes that are far beyond the comprehension of the Lego-brain of my childhood (my Lego was Black, Blue, White, Red, Yellow, Grey).

Some of the pieces have been quite upsetting, but i think this Lavender Quincunx upsets me the most.

@drj Wait, you had grey!? 😲

Joking aside, Lego has gotten so much better! (besides certain quality control issues)

Things got a bit worrying in the '90s and '00s, but they picked it up in the 2010s, and really figured out how to make the system work.

@lunarood yes, i had Space Lego, which was primarily grey. :)

I broadly agree, i'm lucky enough to have been at uni in the 1990s, so didn't play Lego much then, but it looks like an awful period for Lego. The last twenty years have been much better (except for Friends, and what is now many cringe Wizard TERF sets)

@drj Yeah, same. I recently even assembled my old Star Fleet Voyager again, out of nostalgia. I was just joking about even earlier Lego.

And yeah, the '90s and early 2000s were pretty dire. But I must disagree on Friends. While I do think the minidolls are a major misstep, Lego Friends as a whole is one of the best things Lego has done!
